View the earth as it was mapped in 1745 with this Vaugondy Tabletop World Globe.Father, Gilles Robert de Vaugondy, and son, Didier Robert de Vaugondy, were the leading map makers in France during the 1700s.Didier was appointed geographer to Louis XV and he published many more globes of various sizes, the biggest with a diameter of 8.5 ft. (2.6 meters).The fact that relatively accurate globes were made centuries ago speaks for the sophistication of early science and cartography.This globe is truly an early document of history. Giving an accurate picture of the world as it was known in 1745, it is not only interesting decor, but also a back-in-time experience, a guide to interpreting and appreciating history.
